About VIA

For over a decade Veterans In Action have run a series of long distance walking and vehicle borne expeditions for veterans who have suffered the effects of war or who have found the transition to civilian life difficult.  The projects, adventurous activities and expeditions  immerse veterans into an environment they understand with their peers that enables them to grow, helping each other every step of the way.

In addition to the expeditions, we run our ALIVE CENTRE (link to ALIVE Centre page) which is based on the Hampshire/Wiltshire border on a private estate which gives a feeling of safety and belonging for all who attend.

We develop unique projects that enable veterans and their families to grow together at their own pace ensuring that the growth is long lasting and transformative so they can live the lives they deserve.

Our approach is unique in a ‘family like’ setting and is based on the decade’s old studies of Post-Traumatic Growth.

To ensure veterans and their families can grow within their communities with support and guidance whenever needed.

To continue to support veterans and their families long term through hard work and participation in ongoing projects and to continue to learn from those we support to better help those who follow in their footsteps.

Is to develop our own unique ALIVE VETERANS RETREAT which will be developed by veterans for veterans using the skills they learned during and after their service (Link to Vision video)

Suicide is a real problem within the veteran’s community and many more veterans battle through depression, Post-Traumatic Stress Disorder or other mental health issues. The current mental health system is overloaded and, in many cases, takes a ‘one size fits all’ approach of medication and talking therapies with long waits for treatment.

We believe that medication and therapy has its place but is not the long term answer to veteran’s problems.

Our hands on approach is a way for veterans to grow before, during or after any therapies by immersing veterans on practical projects with a clear end result working alongside their peers in a safe environment enabling them to grow at their own pace whilst feeling safe.

We believe that veterans have the training and drive to succeed in anything they set their minds to with guidance just as they have done through their service.

We believe that a calm, safe, rural setting is a powerful component of the healing process.

We believe that getting better takes hard work and dedication from every individual with help from us.

We believe that veterans working with peers who have been through the same struggles as themselves helps them achieve more.

We believe that the best form of therapy is self therapy and helping yourself by helping others.

We believe that the whole family should be involved in the recovery process.
