It was great to get back to walking today from Culbone, Somerset to Bideford, Devon. The sun was shining on us at last and the walking was through stunning countryside with some decent hills to climb. The TEAM walked past Chivenor RMB and had a few pictures at the memorial to those who have fallen, some of them friends of TEAM members.
Day 95 as the first day that we started walking on the South West Coast Path which starts in Minehead, Somerset and ends 650 miles late at Poole, Dorset and will be our companion for almost the whole duration of Walk 4 PTSD minus the last few days. The VIA TEAM have walked this route several times and it really is a stunning walk and recommended to any walker.
The highlights of our day were the Valley of the Rocks just outside Lynton but the hill out of Lynton is a killer on the lungs but well worth it when you get to the Valley as it truly is stunning and brought out the child in us all with us scrambling up over the rocks.
The walk through Ilfracombe was really good with tourists stopping us to ask what we were doing and time for a well-deserved ice cream. It was then on to Woolacombe and the walk over stunning views to Croyde Bay. The days walk ended with the TEAM walking into Bideford and then it was off to visit some friends who had invited us out for a meal.
Many thanks to Janty and Drew who took part on our very first long distance Union Flag Walk in 2010 from John O’Groats to Land’s End and Drew who had served in the Royal Engineers too many years ago. Thanks once again for your hospitality.
The next few days will be fundraising for the TEAM but with one free day where we will make up the lost mileage. It is now only 24 days until we reach Andover where supporters will walk the last 6 miles into Andover with the TEAM where we will be met at the Guildhall by the Mayor and local MP Kit Malthouse.
