Gary’s military career started in 1974 at Dover with the Junior Leaders Regiment RE, from there he was posted to Cove and then onto 35 Engineer Regiment in Hameln, He served 2 tours in Northern Ireland and in 1980 decided it was time to move on.
He lived in Germany for many years becoming fluent in the language and their beer, and after several years trying to drink Germany dry he returned to Blighty.
A few years ago he had a surprise and his first true love at school found him on good old Facebook after 35 years! They continued where they’d left off and do lots of things together, one passion of theirs is his old Honda 900 Bol D’Or which they ride whenever possible.
Their other passion is a new one and they only found it this year, VIA. After an extraordinary weekend in Snowdon where the VIA team assisted Sharon in conquering her fear of heights, as not only did she reach Snowdon’s peak but she then went onto complete the one mile Zip Wire. They are both now committed to helping, wherever they can, the VIA Team, who in turn do so much to help those with Physical and Mental issues resulting from being in combat, or leaving the safe ‘bubble’ of the Armed Forces after years of service.
