Gone Fishin’ is another spin off project from Veterans Expeditions Overland and is a new project for Veterans In
Action and still under development.
This project idea comes directly from the veterans we help who like the tranquillity of fishing.
Veterans In Action take a different approach to fishing as in the solitude and tranquillity are great but we believe
veterans grow together so for us fishing is a tool to get veterans involved but to also combine with other activities.
Of course, there will be purely fishing days and overnight events and in addition to this Veterans In Action will
combine this into week and two week mini expeditions which will involve our overland vehicles.
Closer to our ALIVE Centre we are looking at local fishing lakes for perhaps day fishing with the occasional overnight
to get veterans prepared for the longer fishing and activity trips.
In the UK we are in talks with a veteran who runs a fishing lake in Cornwall where we can combine fishing with walks
along the South West Coast Path, something Veterans In Action have done many times and have witnessed how
transformative it can be to walk along this beautiful tugged coastline.
On a recent overland expedition Veterans In Action stayed with Peter and Sarah Wilson who run the Forest View
Campsite in Normandy in the heart of the Perche Region (largely undiscovered and unspoilt), bordering on the
Forest du Saussay , France with a fishing lake on the campsite but also with some fantastic off road routes nearby for
the vehicles and only 2 hours from the beaches of Normandy for day trips.
