John Coffey who served with the Royal Engineers from 1987 until 1992 in 24 Field Squadron and who was medically discharged due to asthma and is now working as an area manager in the North West of England for the retail chain Quality Save contacted Veterans In Action before the Walk 4 PTSD started to say he would like to do an event to raise funds for the charity.
John is the area manager for 21 stores and on Saturday 25th of July, staff from all the stores dressed in military style clothing and held a bucket collection to raise funds to help those who suffer the hidden wounds of war. John himself set up a treadmill in Middleton Shopping Centre and ran 26 miles whilst his nieces and a local Councillor carrying out the bucket collection.
The day ended with everyone involved meeting at the Moon under the Water pub in Manchester for a well-deserved drink or three………….
After all the counting was done a huge £4,090 was raised by all involved and VIA would like to thank them for their efforts in what is to become an annual event.
