The Build

In early 2017 VIA were approached by the Masonic Charitable Foundation to inform us we had been put forward for an online voting grant by the Dorset region as part of their ter-centenary celebrations. The online vote was held and VIA were lucky enough to be awarded £25,000 for our new project Veterans Expeditions Overland.

Further grants were obtained through AVIVAVeterans Foundation and The Big Lottery which meant we could do more with the vehicles The aim of the Build Phase of the project was  to strip and build a minimum of 3 Land Rovers to expedition standard, 1 Land Rover Defender and 2 Land Rover Discovery’s an additional Land Rover Discovery was added due to the extra grant funding.

All the work on the vehicles was undertaken over a 10 month period of intensive work where vehicles were stripped down to their chassis with all work carried out by veterans and serving personnel and prepared to expedition standard ready them for Phase 2 of the project which was to undertake an overland expedition driving from the UK to Greece and back, a journey of 7,500 miles passing through 15 different countries over a 6 week period and was manned by a group veterans who suffered the effects of war alongside VIA team members.

All aspects of the build phase and the expedition was filmed and edited by veterans for a You Tube Channel called Veterans Expeditions Overland.

Please follow link below to our You Tube Channel and see how we built our vehicles and don’t forget to like and SUBSCRIBE to our channel to keep updated.

Thanks to a further grant from the Veterans Foundation the project continues with a vehicle build each month so to get involved please email to find dates.
